Are Bloggers Nerds And/Or Geeks?
February 13th, 2006 by Vince Chan :: Just woke up because I’ve been sneezing all night and this morning. To clear my head, I decided to seek the most mundane entertainment that I could find. I often tell myself that even though more and more people are starting to Blog, the ones that are hardcore can still be pre-dominantly described as geeks or nerds. I decided to prove to myself (by being honest) that I am not a nerd. Why do I need my validation? Because I don’t look like this guy! LOL Here’s my score!
What do you think? Do you also expect the people who make the effort to blog on a regular or semi-regular basis to have a bit of nerd/geek in them? I’m not here to debate the differences in definition (since nerds and geeks are different breeds). If you know of a good geek test, I’d like to take that too!

28. Have you ever thought that blogging could be part of a job/business promotion requirement? By the way add an extra 20% to your score for using LOL acronym.
Vince, I feel confident about my nerd score!
However, I am sligly discombogulated (sp?)! I know I am a geek! I am an uber geek, I have a six lcd multi monitor setup, a bakers rack with my printer, servers and spare parts. I care my treo or Axim everywhere I go. I get RSS feeds mobile. I have a car computer, I pay attention to the internet health report. I can recall every IP address I’ve ever had.. and well.
Honestly I think bloggers come in a variety of personalities. You have the geek bloggers, like myself, where the development and tech side are more prominent than our writing abilities, you have the nerdy ones where their research is so freaking detaild you would think they were writing a graduate thesis, and then the normal old guys who are just doing it for money..
GO GEEKS!! WOOO!!!
By the way, my score was 37
I still have the highest nerd score so far! (sigh) I’ll only add 10% to my score for the LOL acronym as Ignat suggested to keep my score under 50 (my psychological barrier).
I guess Justin, you’re focused on the tech side, but geeks as far as I know reach out further than technology, there are music geeks, sports geeks, movie geeks, comic geeks.. and all of these are great Blog subject matter!
But only us real tech geeks matter :)
