Going Pro Means I’m Going Web 2.0!

Written on April 1st, 2006 by Vince Chan :: No Comments »

Now that I’m going PRO, I’m thinking of ways to make lots of money! Blogging is way too slow because you have to build up your content gateways, work on increasing readership, building your community and networking with Bloggers! With my skills, it’ll be 2024 before I gain any traction.

I could also do single page Adsense sites and the advantage here will be one-off efforts that do not require me to update! But what I’m really looking for is an explosion! Since bubble 2.0 is here, I had better not miss the Web 2.0 limbo line-up!

So, I announce my latest venture - Thingamajig, the newest Web 2.0 app that you’ve never heard of. I don’t know what it does yet, but it will be the best Web 2.0 app that nobody can live without! Once you sign up, you will renounce all the other W2 apps out there.

Why will it succeed? Because it’s got a catchy name! I’m already hearing people talk about it - “What’s this thingamajig?”. It resembles the advertising of “What is the matrix?” and we know how that fared out! Plus, Thingamajig will have all the Web 2.0 design goodies that will draw you in to spend lots of money! I can’t wait to swim in those dollar bills!

BlogBeat: An Amateur App For Amateurs

Written on February 15th, 2006 by Vince Chan :: 6 Comments

I just signed up to try out BlogBeat.org on the recommendation of a Mark Evans post. It hadn’t been 5 minutes and I’m already dreading the experience! Rather than write full essays about BlogBeat’s deficiences, I will simply outline my observations quickly as I think that’s all they deserve.

    Multiple Domain Names
What’s with the .org and .net domain names? Be consistent! I signed up on the .org site and my welcoming message had links with the .net domain. Here’s the link in question:

You may also choose to sign up at any time by selecting the Purchase Blogbeat link at the top of the page.

Hope you had more luck than me, because all I get was a server error page (pictured below)! Very amateur!

    Where Are The Links?
In the link above, BlogBeat states that there is easy access to the purchase page at the top of the page. None were found on ANY of the pages? What’s going on? (more…)

Amateur Night At The Web 2.0

Written on January 26th, 2006 by Vince Chan :: 2 Comments

Nicolas Garr has a fascinating read on his Blog titled The Amorality of Web 2.0. He displays his perspective of the new World Wide Web, criticising its rampant Amateurism and citing a few examples from Wikipedia in the section called The Cult Of The Amateur.

Though the post has a negative connotation throughout, I’m actually very happy about it because it shows that Amateurs are alive and well. Let’s take back the web! We won’t have it any other way!

    Your Passion Drives Web 2.0!

Written on January 14th, 2006 by Vince Chan :: No Comments »

Seth Godin is a marketing genius who is well-known among the Blogger community. He released a free eBook, Everyone Is An Expert (about something), late last year that is the subject of today’s AmBlog.

The eBook is written for Bloggers familiar with the craft who are looking to drive more sales, traffic and other monetary benefits through blogging. Seth promotes that one can achieve more by doing less.

What I’ve taken out from this book is the idea that the old internet (aka Web 1.0) was a place where Search Engine results mattered. SEO mastery, meta tags were all very essential in organizing and delivering information. People invest time to sift through search results/content to bring meaning to one’s information quest.

Seth clarifies that the new internet (aka Web 2.0) is about people helping each other to bring meaning and help an information quest to make sense. Blogs are a resulting phenonmonon of people wishing to hear from the experts, be directed by experts and have information organized by experts (Seth gave an analogy using a librarian).

I firmly believe that sharing your expertise/your perspective is what has taken place. Social networking is (more…)
